Replicant Model Type: Tiger Lily

Many of you have seen the picture above because it's made its rounds on the journals of my friends, but I thought I'd post it too because I realy like it.

The model is [info]lumivalkoinen
The designer is [info]_yungfuktoi_
The hair is Holly Jones
The makeup is Nelly Recchia
The photographer is me, Nadya Lev

How lucky I am to collaborate with everyone above. It was one of those rare shoots when everybody was on exactly the same page with what kind of mood we wanted to create... it's inspired by Blade Runner and aristocracy. Lumi's friend [info]auraphage even came up with an awesome title for it: "Replicant Model Type: Tiger Lily".

And because I am in an extra-chatty mood this afternnoon, I am going to ask my LJ friends some questions! I have 700+ friends here on LJ now and I'd like to see who's out there.

1. Who here is a fan of Haujobb and other Daniel Myer projects such as Cleen? When I was younger all his music sounded boring to me compared to Nitzer Ebb/242/VNV/late-90s ooontz ooontz, but now I find a lot of subtlety in his music that makes me feel things that no other industrial music makes me feel. Does anyone else know what I am talking about? This feelings seem to be enhanced by knowing William Gibson's books - anyone else feel that connection?

2. Has anyone here ever produced an old-skool 'zine using rubber cement, scissors and a Xerox machine? Who remembers Factsheet Five, Rollerderby, Ben is Dead?  Who mourned the demise of Sassy?

3. What blogs do you read? I only started reading blogs in the past year.  Here are the blogs I follow every day:  BoingBoingValleywagBrass Goggles, Warren Ellis. Sometimes I check in with Crooks and Liars and Paleo-Future. What's on your reading list?

Hey, cool, you're still alive. ;)

There aren't many blogs I actively follow, which is weird since I still read a hell of a lot of them. A lot of the ones I regularly read are less because I go and look at them, and more because people do the "You've gotta see this! *linklinklink*" thing.

I get a lot of my stuff from forums, since they tend to aggregate a lot of interesting stuff from various blogs/news sources/etc. The main ones these days are Democratic Underground when I'm in a mood to read through the hysteria, and MysticWicks, which I'm an admin of for some indecipherable reason.

WorldChanging is one of the ones that I do actively try to follow, for a variety of reasons. (I was doing some work a yearish back on curriculum design for the provincial schools and they asked for ideas for blogs for teachers/students to use for parts of one course; that was one of the ones I plugged.)

Oh goodness yes! I produced our first Atrocities catalogue that way :)

I even used to make tons of copies of bones and cut them to re-arrange into letters and words for my "Ghoul Pops" flyers before I ever knew that there was a simple computer font for typing out such things ;)

Fantastic group effort on the photograph!

I never tire of looking at this photo!

I will have to check out this Haujobb.

I may have had a subscription to Sassy.

I mostly read blogs by other parents.

Lovely photo.
I SERIOUSLY mourned Sassy. I still have all my old copies.

I read Josh Hillis' blog, Boing Boing and Moby's blog.

Fab shot!!

Until 1998, I had every issue of Sassy as I had a subscription from Day 1. Unfortunately, my dad didn't pay the mortgage and one day the sherriff came and locked us out of the house forever. I never saw my things again.

Sassy is how I learned to turn fishnet pantyhose upside down, cut out the crotch and feet, and have an instant fishnet top!

1. Haujobb's somewhat after my CD collecting time, although I'm sure I caught them at clubs and such. I was mostly listening to groups like Switchblade Symphony and such around 1996. That being said, you should check out Tear Garden is you like subtlety in your music.

2. I did a three issue "zine" back in college but it wasn't really that good. I didn't have anything to talk about then except unfocused rantings at vague targets.

3. Crooks and Liars, Altercation, Huffington Post, Talking Points Memo, and Wonkette.

I love Haujobb. Solutions for a Small Planet (Nature's Interface is sooo good) and Polarity and Vertical Theory are my favorites. I also love Cleen and Cleener :).

The blogs I read lately tend to be more focused on politics and pressing social issues so I gravitate to Huffington Post and Alternet.org. Something about the writing and the quality of the commenting keeps me reading.

the blogs I read daily/frequently are the always-awesome Boing Boing, as well as Reverse Cowgirl [porno/sex focusses art+culture stuff.]
I've recently discovered Pony Express which is pretty much more erotic/sex art and Burnlab [music/technology/art], they're all a world of inspiration for me.

I've said this before when it's been posted, but that photo is incredible.

I have about 40 issues of Sassy that I've been collecting from ebay for inpiration/ ideas as of late.

I'm still missing the one where they teach you how to make a dress out of a black men's tshirt and fishnets. Anyone?

Beautiful.

Love that idea.

As far as your questions:

1. I like Haubjobb and Cleen, but haven't been paying attention to the recent work.
2. I have not, but I really wanted to. There were only a couple of local zines (which was Minneapolis at the time) that I liked, unfortunately, I saw only a couple of issues and then they disappeared.
3. I get my daily gay from gaytwogether.

gorgeous shot.
1. I like haubjobb but I wouldn't call myself a fan for fear that people who really follow them would pick on me.
2. I made a few zines with friends ages ago. So long that I don't remember what they were called even. We did some zine swaps, and mailed stuff out with the super-cool reusabel stamp trick-coat teh stamp in elmers white glue, then when the person recieves it they can take a damp cloth and rub the glue-and cancellation-off.
3. I don't have a lot of time to read blogs anymore, I check salon sometimes, mostly Broadsheet and War room because I don't have a tv or read newspapers and I should check in with the world once in a while. Granted it's got a view to push, so I take it with a grain of salt, but they're pretty consistent with their standards and don't care which side dropped the ball, they'll get called on it.
